Doctors in Bulgaria with Compulsory Hospital Insurance

The Council of Ministers adopted an Ordinance on the compulsory insurance of persons practicing a medical profession, Actualno.com reported.

With the introduction of the Normative act, the provisions of Art. 189 of the Health Act, are fulfilled  - “Medical establishments shall insure the persons exercising the medical profession at the medical establishment for potential damages resulting from culpable non-performance of their professional duties”.

The objective is to lay down uniform criteria for mandatory insurance and minimum insurance liability limits to compensate for damage caused to patients as a result of a proven culpable non-performance of their professional duties of persons, practicing a medical profession.

The insurance will be made by the medical institutions and the limits of liability are divided into two types of activities and three risk groups, depending on the subject in which the person is active. It is envisaged to take out insurance with a cover, above the minimum written in the Ordinance, thus assuming that the condition for taking out insurance is fulfilled.
