103 Million Varna-Burgas Electrical Grid Project Launched

The Electrical System Operator starts a project for building a 400 KV electrical grid connection between the substations in Varna and Burgas.

Capital.bg reported on the development, citing information from the registry for public contracts. They write that the project for the new electrical grid was approved 2 years ago by the European Commission for co-financing.

The price for each of the three planned lots is between €32 and €36 million, which the tracks being about 28 to 32 kilometers long. The contractors will have to build new posts and switch old ones in the Burgas lot. The operation parameters put the deadline at 16 months. Candidates can give offers until October 26.

The project will receive EU funding. This is the second such ESO project. In 2015, the EU approved the building of a similar 400 KV grid between the Maritsa Iztok and Burgas substations. The track was 130 km long.
