Record Rise of the Natural Gas Price From October 1st

Capital reported that the Working Group of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission proposes an increase of the natural gas price by 13.89% from 1 October. This will be the biggest jump in the price of gas since 1 April 2017. The increase will affect heating and hot water prices.

Some of the reasons for the rise in price are related to the expected higher import prices of natural gas as well as to the higher exchange rate of the US dollar against the Levs. This will be the fourth consecutive increase in gas prices since the beginning of the year when 1,000 m3 cost BGN 342.22. It is expected that this will not be the last increase.

In July, because of the rise in gas prices by just over 10%, the price of heating in the country increased by an average of 7.33%, so the growth is now even higher.

If on 30 September, the Commission decides that the price will increase nearly by 14%, a new update of the tariffs for heating and high-efficiency electricity will be required by law.
