Boyko Borisov: Bulgaria Has Some of the Best Conditions for Doing Business in Europe

The United States is now the sixth largest investor in Bulgaria due to the good business climate in the country. This was announced by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov during a meeting with members of the American Chamber of Commerce, BNT reported.

The Prime minister commented that a few months ago the country's foreign debt was reduced and it is now 24% of GDP. In addition, he highlighted the steady trend of GDP growth and the diversification of investments. At the moment more investments are made in the production sector, compared to the previous 15-20 years when all of them were in services, telecommunications, and bank systems.

However, less than a month ago an analysis made by the Bulgarian Industrial Association found that investments in Bulgaria reached nearly BGN 19 billion in 2017, of which BGN 1.9 billion were foreign and the rest were local ones, Capital reported.

The Chamber said that there is a total collapse of foreign investment in the country. The initial data for 2018 are also not encouraging - by the middle of the year, foreign investments amount to BGN 246 million.
