71 Bulgarian Tour Operators to be Removed from Tourism Registry

The Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism is starting a procedure to stop new registry of tourist companies and the removal of 71 existing tour operators.

The reason given for the operation is that these companies have not paid the necessary insurance for conducting their activities. Nikolina Angelkova, the tourism minister, signed the order for the procedure on the recommendation of the expert commission for registry of tour operators. While the companies will not be removed from the national trade registry, their names will be marked in red. That way, consumers will be informed about any potential wrongdoing.

Getting insured is mandatory for tour operators. Proof of the insurance policy must be sent to the tourism ministry in order for the operator to be admitted in the registry. Most of the firms that will be removed are in Sofia, Varna, and Burgas, but there are also companies from Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, and Dobrich.
