Bulgarian School Director Accused of Draining State Money

NOVA's investigation regarding a possible drain of thousands of levs through fictitious sports camps, training, and repairs was presented to the television viewers today.

A signal was filled by teachers from the "Georgi Benkovski" Sports school in Pleven and, according to them, the director Plamen Georgiev has been draining state money for years. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has found irregularities, and an investigation is already underway.

One of the lecturers commented that the director wanted teachers to sign false papers for a trip they hadn’t organized. Instead of a bus, the report said that a whole class of footballers traveled to Gorna Oryahovitsa for a camp with a car - the car of the director, explainеd the Ministry. Students added that for almost a full-time course of study, there hadn‘t gone to a sports camp. The pupils have filed a signal with the Prosecutor's office. Besides camps, money is also taken through unrealistic teachers' training.

Because of the many violations found, the Sports Ministry decided to dismiss the school director.
