182 Reports of Missing Medicines in Bulgaria

For three months, the Bulgarian Association for the Development of Parallel Drug Marketing has received 182 reports of missing medicines from the whole country on its Internet platform, Mediapool reported.

In 53% of the cases, the problem can be solved through fast delivery within the EU, as the signals are for drugs with permanent or temporary discontinued imports for Bulgaria. In 20% of the alerts, information was provided on where the medication sought is available, so these are medicines that are just deficient.

Unfortunately, 32% of the cases are for deregistered and discontinued sales in Bulgaria, and 16% of the alerts are for medicines that patients have received outside Bulgaria and have searched for them in the country, but they were not at all registered in Bulgaria. The alerts refer to a total of 120 products.

The reasons for global shortages and opportunities for parallel imports for missing and deficient medicines in Bulgaria and the EU will be the topic of the forthcoming roundtable on 18 September.
