46 Dogs from Sofia's Shelters Found New Owners in July

46 dogs were adopted out of the shelters in Sofia in July 2018.

Dir.bg reported on a statement made by the director of the municipality organization “Ecobalance”, Veselin Asenov. The 3 shelters in Sofia reportedly house 1650 dogs. 50 domestic dogs received a free castration in July. Since the start of 2018, 307 domestic dogs were castrated by the organization, which marks a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2017.

Ecobalance captured 317 dogs last month, castrating 243 of them. 235 of the dogs were returned to the places of capture. Since the start of the year, the organization caught 2126 canines, which is a slight decrease compared to 2017. The owners of 8 dogs voluntarily gave up their pets to the shelter.

The expenses of the 3 shelters in July were BGN 194,944. The number includes the housing, medicine, and food of the dogs along with the salaries of the caretakers.

Sadly, the problems with stray dogs in Sofia continue, with thousands of the canines remaining homeless in the city.
