Over 9,000 People Gathered for the Bagpipe Festival in Gela Village, Bulgaria

Thousands gathered for the bagpipe festival near the village of Gela, Smolyan. For the 16th consecutive year, over 60 bagpipers from all over Bulgaria showed their talent during the weekend. Mastery was demonstrated also by a Scottish man who has arrived in the country specifically for the gathering.

Over 9,000 people from all over the country and abroad gathered in the meadows. This is the largest congregation in the area. The main goal of the festival is to popularize the authentic Rhodope folklore. The participants in the contest in the village of Gela are divided into three age groups: First age group - up to 14 years - run a free program up to 5 minutes, The second age group - from 15 to 20 years - a mandatory performance of a slow and a fast melody up to 6 minutes, and third age group - over 21 years old - performing a slow and a fast melody up to 7 minutes.

For the first time beside the stage, a Bulgarian flag with an impressive size was stretched. There was also a Cheverme (slowly cooked on fire meat), as it is a traditional Rhodope cuisine and a tradition in the village of Gela.
