Police to Take Samples on Sofia-Svoge Road After Bus Crash

The site of the tragic bus crash that cost the lives of at least 16 people will be closed down today until 6 PM. The authorities will conduct an inspection of the Sofia-Svoge road in order to determine the cause of the crash and whether or not the road’s condition caused the incident.

The Bulgarian National Investigation Service will take samples from the asphalt and conduct lab analysis. The inspection will start at 10 AM, after which the sampling will commence. The faster pace of the investigation is motivated by the demands of the Road Infrastructure Agency for repairing the damaged section of the road between Svoge and Sofia.

This repair will interfere with the evidence, so all analysis must have to be conducted quickly. The RIA has warned Trace, the firm responsible for maintaining the road, for fixing that specific dangerous section. Trace’s inability to do so led to suspicion. Bulgarian police investigators searched the firm’s headquarters in Sofia and confiscated documents that may help in the investigation.
