French Press Reports: EU Ready to Offer UK an Unprecedented Deal

It became clear that the EU is ready to offer the UK an unprecedented deal after Brexit, AFP reported. EU Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier said that a partnership plan, that has never been proposed before to a third country, will be introduced.

A possible agreement would include four things: trade, free trade agreement, agreements on different sectors of general interest, and foreign policy and external security.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stressed that a possible agreement between Brussels and London, in any case, should ensure that there will be no “solid” border between the Republic of Ireland and the British province of Northern Ireland, bTV announced.

Britain's Brexit Minister Dominic Raab commented that the deadline for reaching an agreement set until October might not be observed, but added that it is certain that it will be one before Britain leaves the EU on March 29 next year.

The pound increased in value on the backs of the remarks, although it is not clear as to how such a deal would seek to not violate the numerous red lines of the UK - namely freedom of movement, membership of the customs union, and keeping a united market between Great Britain and Northern Ireland due to the UK government's reliance on the Democratic Unionist Party to maintain power.

Bulgaria is one of the countries in the EU with the lowest exposure to Brexit due to small amounts of trade between Bulgaria and the UK, but has an interest on the basis of the large numbers of Bulgarians who live in the UK.
