How Many EU Citizens Are Leaving the UK?

With Brexit approaching, EU citizens working in the UK, are becoming more uncertain about their future. Many people are planning to leave the country to seek a new more stable future, and some of them already did.

The recent news that, in 2017, EU citizens working in the UK have fallen by 86,000, is a clear sign that the departure of foreigners is really happening. There is also an increase in the number of vacancies - 829,000.

The number of EU citizens in the UK looking for job opportunities has fallen by a third (33%) from 55,000 in 2016 to 37,000 in the past year, BBC stated.

Kingston Technology's VP of sales and marketing, Bernd Dombrowsky commented that "Union citizens have so far simply filled a hole left by the British system", Capital reported. He also warns that it will still be seen how many skilled candidates will choose to work in Germany, France or Spain where they will be far more secure.

Today, it became clear that the EU is ready to offer the UK an unprecedented deal after Brexit, “France-press” Agency reported.

 

How many Bulgarians are living in the UK?

It is difficult to say how many Bulgarians exactly are living in the United Kingdom.

According to the population census in 2011, there are 45,893 Bulgarian citizens in the UK, with Scotland and Northern Ireland being excluded from the census.

According to Statistics of the National Statistics Office, Bulgarians living in the UK in 2014-2016 are 71,000.

According to unofficial data, the citizens of Bulgaria living in the UK by 2016 reached about 200,000 people.

According to The Guardian, in 2017 more than 413,000 Romanian and Bulgarian citizens are living in Britain.

The number of Bulgarians in the UK is variable, as many young people move there to study and subsequently remain to work and live. Unfortunately, there is no official information that is unified.
