200,000 Passengers Trapped on the Greek Islands Due to a Sailors' Strike

A 24-hour strike of seamen in Greece stops the ferries in Greece on September 3rd. This will be the reason why thousands of tourists, including many Bulgarians, to stay trapped on the islands.

Sailors' demands are a rise in their salaries by 5% and active measures against unemployment. Ferry owners countered that they have not reduced wages for their crews during the crisis, unlike other sectors.

The strike concerns at least 200,000 passengers who booked ferry tickets for Monday. Besides ferries, cargo ships also will not be moving. Thousands of tourists will remain on the islands if they fail to go to airports by Sunday evening.

Tour operators have tried to negotiate with sailors, but they refused to cancel the strike.
