Product Tax on Clothing and Textiles to be Introduced in Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Industrial Association announced that the Ministry of Environment and Water plans to introduce a product tax on clothing and textiles. This was decided at a meeting of the Chairman of BIA Radosvet Radev with the responsible minister Neno Dimov, and the reason is the increased import of second-hand clothes.

Data from the Association of Processors and Retailers second-hand clothes show that the imports of second-hand clothes in Bulgaria are on average of 30 tons per day, with almost half of this amount being exported for non-EU countries. The foreseen fee is expected to be only for the part of the import and products that lead to environmental pollution (about 3%).

It is expected that a meeting will be organized after October.
