Manfred Weber: Bulgaria - a Model for Other EU Countries

On Thursday, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Manfred Weber, Chairman of the European People's Party in the European Parliament, visited the fence at the Bulgarian-Turkish border near Rezovo, the government's press service reported.

Weber commented that Bulgaria is doing much better than some Schengen countries and added that, in his opinion, Bulgaria is a good model of how a country with a migrant flow can handle a successful border security and control.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that the country has so far made a fence border, bought ships and improved the qualifications of the sailors, as well as made some legal changes. He also emphasized that Bulgaria is an example of maintaining good neighbor relations with Turkey and stressed that the country should be immediately admitted to Schengen by air and water as it has proven it can provide border control and protection of the EU's external borders.

According to the EPP Group Chairman in the European Parliament, Bulgaria even does "better than other countries" at border controls.
