Bulgarians Spend Only EUR 156 per Person for a Summer Holiday

Eurostat figures show that Bulgarians spend more than twice as little money on summer holidays as is the average level in the European Union.

EUR 156 per person Bulgarians spend on their summer holidays, while the average level in the EU is EUR 336. The least money is spent in Latvia - only EUR 107 per person. Luxembourgish residents spent the most per holiday trip (around EUR 768) in 2016, followed by residents of Malta (around EUR 646) and Austria (around EUR 607). The neighbor of Bulgaria – Romania, also spends a relatively small amount of money - EUR 124 per person.

Germany has the largest turnover in the tourism sector - with EUR 443 per capita they actually have a 28% share of all tourism spending within the EU.

45% of the money is spent on a summer holiday in one's own country and another 34% in another member state. Other preferred destinations are North and South America (7%), Asia (6%), Africa (2%) and Australia (1%).
