Metro Cash & Carry to Sell Its Property Assets in Bulgaria and Romania

The Romanian "Ziarul Financiar" reported that the German company Metro Cash & Carry, which is one of Europe's largest retail chains, has hired the Goldman Sachs bank to find a buyer for its property assets in Bulgaria and Romania. The properties include plots, shops, and other assets.

Metro Cash & Carry has 13 stores in Bulgaria and plans to sell its real estate business and then rent the premises to continue operating its local stores.

The total area of each chain store in Bulgaria exceeds 120,000 square meters. "Romania-Insider" commented that in Romania, Metro Cash & Carry owns 30 stores with a total area of about 200,000 square meters. The value of Metro's property portfolio in Romania amounted to between EUR 400 and 600 million at an average retail price of EUR 15-20 million.
