New Type of Internet Fraud in Bulgaria

The General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime is warning about a new type of Internet fraud.

It spreads emails in which there is a message in English asking for a virtual currency payment of an amount of about $3,000. The reason the scammers give is that they have incriminating and shameful videos of the email owner. The hackers tell the users they would send the videos to all of the victim's contacts unless they paid the money.

E-mail addresses and passwords of users who have been registered in "illegitimate" dating sites, online games, etc., have been obtained illegally.

The Directorate experts advise users not to open suspicious messages, and to not make undefined payments. Signals are filed with the respective IT service provider or the MI.
