11 Suspected Dog Fighting Pit Bulls Euthanized After Killing Their Owner

A 33-year-old man from the Bulgarian village of Sotirya was bitten to death by 11 pit bull dogs. The dogs are speculated to have been a part of an illegal kennel for pit fight training. All the canines were euthanized after the incident.

24Chasa reported on the incident. The deceased Zhivko Dimitrov was a divorcee living with his mother in the villa zone of Sotirya. The Agency for Food Safety reports that Dimitrov hasn’t registered a kennel and likely bred the animals illegally. The locals believe that the man raised dogs in order to guard his property, but the authorities are also looking into a possible training operation for dog fights.

The locals claim that Dimitrov and a younger friend of his went out for a walk with the dogs. Something frustrated the animals and they attacked their owner, biting him severely. His friend called an ambulance. Dimitrov was rushed to the hospital, but the staff was unable to help him. The 33-year-old man died from blood loss inflicted by dog bites. The incident happened on July 25th.

The police arrived on the spot the very same day. The pit bulls had spread out in the area. 2 of the dogs were located and euthanized the very same day. 9 others were found and put down the following day.

This isn't the first case of pit bulls killing someone in Bulgaria for this year. A dog of the breed killed a 3-year-old child near Pazardjik. Similar to the Sotorya case, there were grounds to suspect mistreatment and that the dog was trained for pit fighting.
