Workload of Teachers in Bulgaria Continues to Grow

A survey by the Syndicate "Education" with "Podkrepa" Confederation of Labor shows that the workload of teachers continues to grow.

The results show that teachers work almost 20 hours a week above the normal - respondents admit that their working week sometimes reaches 59 hours, at a maximum rate of 40 hours according to the Labor Code in Bulgaria. According to the union, every lecturer should receive a bonus BGN 200 for those additional hours related to administrative work.

The union offers to the Ministry 17 ideas on how to unload the teachers from unnecessary tasks. These include the introduction of administrative digitalization, minimizing the number of reports related to students at risk and talented students. Apart from these, the suggestions included the reduction of the number of documents like the ones for organizing trips, excursions, reports on subjects at the beginning of each school year, etc.
