Quarantine: Police Stations on the Passes from Southern to Northern Bulgaria

Since today, the two passageways in the Stara Zagora region - Shipka and the Pass of the Republic, have been provided with permanent police stations in order to prevent the transportation of potentially dangerous or infected animals from Southern to Northern Bulgaria.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Regional Crisis Headquarters concerning the outbreaks of plague in the districts of Burgas and Yambol.

Meanwhile, BSP leader Kornelia Ninova has demanded the resignation of the Agriculture minister Rumen Porozhanov. In her opinion, the responsibility lies entirely with Minister Porozhanov and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. She described Porozhanov's actions as "illegal" and added that besides the danger of infection, there is now an opportunity for civil disobedience.

The BSP leader believes all politicians should support the farmers and take immediate measures to quarantine and disinfect the places where the plague is suspected to be spreading.

Tsvetan Tsvetanov from GERB commented that if no action is taken, it would endanger 1,300,000 animals across the country and added that there is a risk of a ban from the European Commission regarding restrictions for exporting animals.
