Bulgaria's Public Works Minister: Mizia Flood Will Cost 3 Million From Damages

The damages after the Mizia flood will be 3 million leva according to Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Nikolai Nankov.

The flood happened on July 10 after a heavy downpour. The Minister was quoted as giving this assessment during a meeting with the mayor or Mizia Obshtina, Violin Krushovenski. There are plans for building canals that will prevent future flooding. During the inspections, it was found that the spillway of Rogozen Dam was damaged and should also be repaired.

While this flood caused a lot of damage, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the previous Mizia disaster that swept away whole houses and caused several mortalities. The infrastructure of these parts of rural Bulgaria is often ill-equipped to hold the water from the heavy rains typical of this season.

Minister Nankov revealed that he received assurances that the repairs these damaged sites will be covered by their respective contractors.
