The Bulgarian Minister of Interior, Valentin Radev, commented on the recent shocking murder case where a mentally ill 26-year-old man attacked his mother, stabbed his father to death, and fought two police officers with a knife. Radev called for changes in the laws regarding mentally ill and dangerous persons.
The minister said: “People with mental illnesses shouldn’t run around freely. They should be detained and guarded.” Radev also told that he spoke with the Minister of Healthcare, Kiril Ananiev, in order to change the laws concerning the mentally ill.
The 26-year-old man was known to have mental problems. He attacked his mother. His 76-year-old father tried to protect her, but was overpowered and received several knife wounds which killed him. When the police arrived, the door to the Sofia apartment where the scene took place was closed. They broke it down and pacified the mentally disturbed man. He was sent to the Center of Psychological Health, where he was on record.
