Sofia, Bulgaria -
In the plan for the implementation of the demographic strategy of Bulgaria in 2018 at the suggestion of the Social Minister, Biser Petkov, it is stated that 65,500 babies are to be born this year in the country.
In Bulgaria in 2017, 56,000 babies were born and the year was the one with the smallest amount of born children in Bulgaria since 1945. More than BGN 568 million budget is provided for the support of pregnant women, with the provision of one-off childbirth allowances and support for the adoption of 700 children.
It is clear from the decision of the Council of Ministers that 2100 of the newborns this year are planned to be twins. However, the plan does not explain how the increase in fertility rate in Bulgaria will be achieved. According to the estimates, the average amount of money paid for maternity leave will be BGN 27.91 per day. This year, the state set as its target to reduce the cases when the father does not recognize their child.
Around 20,000 Bulgarians living abroad need to return to the country in 2018, according to the government's estimates, because it will pay over BGN 50 million for the training of young people.
