Yoncheva: Borisov Has Bulgaria to Himself, Billion Stolen from the State

Journalist and MP from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Elena Yoncheva, commented on the recent Boyko Borisov island controversy, claiming many islands can be bought with the billions stolen from the state.

Recent accusations from Greek media outlets stated that Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov bought an island in Greece.

Yoncheva had this to say on the issue: “The big problem in Bulgaria is the disappearance of the billions. There was €1 billion stolen just out of hidden fuel excise taxes.” She also added that it doesn’t matter what island Borisov bought or will buy, but that one can get many islands with a billion euro.

According to Yoncheva, Borisov has “taken all of Bulgaria. And if he took an island or an archipelago, thinking of his own future, that’s must be investigated by the specialized services.”

Another BSP member, Alexander Simov, commented on the recent case with “Milen Tsvetkov’s Hour”, claiming it proves Bulgaria has strict censorship. He says: “In our country, there are no murdered journalists, fortunately, but we are already seeing murdered topic and shows. Murder isn’t just physical, but also moral and journalistic and that happens right in front of our eyes.”
