Waiting for a Ferry at a Sofia Subway Station

More than 1500 signals were received on 112 after the downpour rain in Sofia on Monday.

This was stated by the mayor of the capital Yordanka Fandukova. The subways of the Vitosha and Serdika metro stations were most affected, as well as those at the Central Station and the Ministry of Sports.

“Theater 199” is also affected by rain, there are defects on the premises of restaurants in different parts of Sofia. Among the damaged buildings are the Emergency Medical Care Center, “Sofiamed“ Hospital.

Social network users are alarming about flooded streets across the city.

"In about an hour, about 50 litres dropped per square meter of rain in the city, over 900 of the signals received were for flooded buildings. The urban transport movement was restored everywhere, except for the Vardar and Stamboliiski str. buses. The Sofia Fire Department continues to work on the elimination of the damages," Fandukova said. The director of the Sofia Inspectorate, Veska Georgieva, announced that she had no information about any problems with the public transport at the moment but she redirected any further questions to the Urban Mobility Center.

"We can be tolerant of water entering the metro through the stairs, but water flowing from the subway ceiling is proof of the inconvenient construction and criminal stealing, whose visible results are guaranteed at such times!", commented the DSB Municipal Councilor Ivo Bozhkov.
