Eric Rubin: Bulgaria Has a Modernization Plan

The commitment is for all allies of NATO to reach 2% of GDP for defence by 2024 and Bulgaria is one of the few allies that have created a plan to reach them.

Bulgaria spends money on modernizing its armed forces over the last few years. This was said by US Ambassador to Bulgaria Eric Rubin, who had a lecture on "NATO and the bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the USA".

In his view, the country needs to increase its responsibilities, as this will strengthen the armed forces in many ways.

"The modernization of the naval force will give the opportunity for better security, but also for the training of the crews. The new fighters will allow pilots to fly and make training with their neighbours. This will contribute to the safety and security of the pilots," Rubin said.

According to Rubin, taking steps into implementing military spending before the NATO summit in Brussels will put Bulgaria in a good position.

Rubin added also, that Bulgaria is capable of doing great work within the reach of the EU and NATO goals because it has the power to inspire and motivate its neighbours. Furthermore, Bulgaria shows the way its allies have to go, and this leads not only to NATO and EU membership but also to future generations.

Mr Eric Rubin and The Head of the "Georgi S. Rakovski" Military Academy, Gen. Grudi Angelov, promised to maintain the good partnership they established 25 years ago.

The US Ambassador to Bulgaria promises he would do everything in his power to establish relations between the Military Academy “Georgi S. Rakovski” and the National Military University in Washington.
