"Democratic Bulgaria" Embraces the EC's Decision to tie European Funds With the Rule of Law

Today, during an official meeting between the media and the economic team of the newly formed movement called "Democratic Bulgaria", the movement's stances on main economic issues were presented.

Atanas Atanasov - leader of Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria opened the meeting with a statement. He expressed the triparty union's support of the European Commission's decision to make European funds' distribution highly dependent on the degree of the rule of the law in one country. According to him, this proposal and the Prime Minister's wax figure between the figures of Donald Trump and Putin in Varna are two of the hottest pieces of news right now. Atanasov claimed that the Bulgarian government is against the policies suggested by the EC.

"We have been hearing for years that our country has covered all criteria to enter Schengen but it still hasn't entered it. And the reason for that is that there is no rule of law. What brought us together in "Democratic Bulgaria" was the juridical reform and now it is more important than ever for us to aim for it if we want to keep the European funds," Atanasov said. Atanasov reminded that his thesis was always that Borisov's government loves European money but not European rules. However, keeping the status quo will cost Bulgaria its funding.

The members of the political movement explained that their main focus is to keep the economic growth steady throughout the years. Corruption and the interests of the Bulgarian business are being constantly neglected and "Democratic Bulgaria" want to change that so they can bring back the business owners' faith in the institutions.
