Corruption - Bulgarian Traffic Policeman Caught on Camera

Earlier today, bTV reported on a man capturing a corrupt police officer on camera while the man himself was being inspected.

bTV showed the footage that was accompanied by a comment from the driver himself.

According to the driver, he had stopped on boulevard "Vasil Levski" in Sofia to get something to eat. However, within those two minutes of him stopping and getting his snack, a police officer showed up and asked for the man's documents. Unfortunately, it turns out that the driver was in violation - he had not done the obligatory annual technical check-up. He also has a previous fine for illegal parking.

Instead of doing his job and following the law the police officer decided to show some "sympathy" for the driver by fining him for only 50BGN(€25).

The fine was followed by the words: "You owe me now" and an explanation that such a violation would normally cost a temporary ban from driving and 300BGN in fines. So the police officer suggests something else - a 50BGN "tip" for the favour he had just done.

The video shows the corrupt officer giving instructions to the driver to keep his hands low as he is handing him the money.

The National prosecution has already commented on the case. The police officers identity is known, however, it has not yet been publicly announced.
