Bulgarian Journalist: The Media Isn't Covering Slavi Trifonov's Donation on Purpose

Ivan Bakalov, the man who criticized Bulgarian media for not covering the Prime Minister's conviction, is back at it and this time he has some strong words about the political campaign that the media is waging against the talk show host Slavi Trifonov.

As Bakalov reports, Slavi Trifonov has announced that he'd be giving all of his revenue from his concert in London to children with disabilities. Reportedly, this is somewhere between 2 and 4 million BGN. Bakalov points out that this is a very generous donation, regardless of one's opinion on Trifonov. Only bTV (who are Slavi's partners and whose platform he uses for his show), OffNews and Actualno have reported on this. According to Bakalov, this is because other news outlets have become dependent on political figures who see a threat in the TV host.

Bakalov goes further in his claims stating that the media is ignoring stories on children with disabilities on purpose. Back in April, the protesting parents of disabled children were not allowed into the Parliament's building. Bakalov suggests, that this story made the news only because the Bulgarian Socialist Party called out the deputy speaker of the Parliament and insisted that he resigns.
