44% of People Believe the Arrest of the Mayor in Sofia was Staged

A recent study done by Gallup found that 44% of Bulgarians believe that the arrest of the allegedly corrupt mayor of "Mladost" was a staged spectacle. Another 34% believe the exact opposite to be the case and 22% of people have no opinion.

The president of Gallup - Parvan Simeonov said that this points to a good tendency among Bulgarian citizens - the desire to respect other people's dignity and the need for evidence when allegations are made. When it comes to justice, Bulgarians were also very vocal about what happened with Zhelyaz Andreev. 60% of people claim they are happy that the prosecution stopped the extradition.

According to the sociologist, Bulgarians are sensitive when it comes to justice and internal affairs. They believe in a firm approach but are strongly against taken it to an extreme. When asked how they feel about Valeri Simeonov's proposal to ban gambling commercials - 55% say "ban the commercials, let gambling stay", 14% believe that both gambling and commercials should be forbidden and 27% want the status-quo to remain. A majority of people believe that it is not easy to win when gambling, however, 3 million people admit to doing it and 2.5 million people believe that success in life is a matter of luck.
