Peace in Europe Goes Through Balkan Prosperity - Lilyana Pavlova

“The peace in Europe and the Balkan goes through the Balkan’s prosperity,” said Lilyana Pavlova, Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in the Bulgarian National Assembly.

Pavlova commented on the recent developments in the Balkan region and Bulgaria’s role during the country’s presidency of the European Union. She assured that the upcoming meeting of the Western Balkans on May 17, 2018, will have a big significance in that process of prosperity.

Pavlova said that an informal meeting will be hosted by the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on May 16 and that Donald Tusk along with 6 leaders of Balkan countries will be present. The integration of the Western Balkans into the EU will not be the only topic of discussion, however, as Pavlova also promised developments in the defence of the outside borders of the European Union.

Pavlova also boasted about the high score Bulgaria has received for its EU presidency, saying: “The opinions are that the work being done on all levels – expertly and politically – is being done professionally, dynamically, intensively, in the spirit of constructive dialogue, in the spirit which we proclaimed, to not just be constructive, but also to balance, to be a mediator, to be the ones that search for a compromise that will lead to the development on all important issues.”
