The Bulgarian Minister of Economy Talks Trade with Turkey

During a Bulgarian-Turkish business forum in Istanbul, the Bulgarian Minister of Economy - Emil Karanikolov offered some data regarding the trade between the two neighbouring countries.

According to Karanikolov, the trade between the two countries for 2017 is about €4 billion. Bulgaria's export to Turkey was estimated at over 2 billion and makes up 7.8% of Bulgaria's overall exports and has recently marked a 10% increase. Imports from Turkey are at 1.9 billion and make up 6.3% of all imported goods - they have also marked a decent increase - 17.3%.

The Minister pointed out that Turkey is an important trade ally to Bulgaria - it's number 4 in the exports and number 5 in the imports. The fact that the countries are neighbours and have potentially strong markets indicates possibilities for good trade to be made in the future. Karanikolov reminded that Turkey has invested over €1 billion in Bulgaria for the period 1996-2017 and only last year it invested a total of €80.8 million.
