Bulgaria's March of Books

The 7th “March of Books” begins in Bulgaria, with the event’s starting date of April 2 coinciding with the international children’s book day and the birth of the famous fairy tale book author Hans Christian Andersen. The campaign aims to encourage reading among kids.

The March is a yearly nationwide event in which a mobile library goes around Bulgaria, giving books to children for a month. When the month is over, the kids must return the books for the next annual march. bTV covered the campaign’s start in the Sofian 121th Kindergarten in Novi Iskar. According to some estimates, the campaign reached 12,000 children in the previous 6 editions.

Last year, Bulgaria was placed 21th out of 28 countries in the EU for reading books, with 20% of men and 30% reading more than 5 books in the past year.
