Yordanka Hristova Performed her Final Concert in Havana, Cuba

The popular Bulgarian singer Yordanka Hirstova held a special concert in Cuba, dedicated to Bulgaria’s national day March 3.

Fifty years ago, a young Bulgarian girl got to perform before the people of Cuba. Her name was Yordanka Hristova and this was the beginning of a lifelong story. During the days of socialism, Yordanka Hristova was one of the cultural bridges between Bulgaria and Cuba and was a personal friend of Cuba’s most famous dictator – Fidel Castro.

Now, in 2018, Yordanka Hristova had her final Cuban concert. The concert took place on March 2, 2018, at the “Teatro Americo” in Havana. Even though the concert was dedicated to the Bulgarian national holiday – March 3, many local musicians took part in the event. Among the co-performers were Roberto Carcassés and Farah Maria. More than a thousand people were present at the event, among which were many representatives of the Cuban government, diplomats, and Cubans who had received their education in Bulgaria.

A funny fact concerning Yordanka Hristova and Cuba is that her popularity on the island had become so great, that Yordanka had become one of the most common names for newborn Cuban girls.
