February 2018 - 3.5% Increase in Bulgarians Traveling Abroad

There’s a reported 3.5% increase in travel for Bulgarians this February. Visits to Bulgaria have also increased by 4.9%.

The statistic was released by the National Statistical Institute. In February 2018, 379,500 Bulgarians travelled abroad while 457,400 foreigners visited the country. The favorite destinations for Bulgarians to visit are: Turkey – around 76,000 visitors,  Greece – 61,000, Romania - 43,000, Serbia - 36,000, Macedonia – 29,000, Germany – 21,000, Austria – 14,000, Italy -11,000.

On the other side of the coin, the largest groups that visited Bulgaria are from Turkey – roughly 79,000, followed by Romania – 66,000, Greece – 59,000, Serbia – 48,000, Macedonia – 40,000, the UK – 20,000, Germany – 14,000, Israel – 14,000, Ukraine – 12,500, Russia – 9,500.

This is an obvious sign that Bulgarians are getting more money and time for leisure activities. But that may not be the case exactly, as BNP Paribas reported that many Bulgarians go into debt to finance their holidays.
