Easter Bonuses for Bulgarian Pensioners May Be Possible This Year as Well

The Minister of Labour Biser Petkov gave an interview for the Bulgarian National Television where he addressed the Easter bonuses for pensioners. The Minister believes that this year the MPs will most probably vote for bonuses for this year as well.

Petkov explained that the specifics will be discussed during the debate for the proposal. The Ministry is trying to contain the span of the bonuses within the limits of the poverty line in Bulgaria.

It is well known that pensions in Bulgaria are not that high. The Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the European Commission is known for having made scandalous remarks on the subject. Hers is the opinion that the pension system does not need an update because of all the fleeing young Bulgarians who are going to send their old parents money in the future.

The one positive note for pensioners is that the majority own their own home, which removes a substantial expense compared to say Germany where a large number of people rent.
