Vladimir Putin Receives Congratulations From Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov

The Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov congratulated the re-elected Russian President Vladimir Putin for his victory.

Similarly to President Radev, Bulgaria’s PM Boyko Borisov expressed hopes of continuing the supposed good relations between Russia and Bulgaria based on the historical and cultural similarities the two countries have.

“As I recognize the existing good traditions of the Bulgarian-Russian cooperation in various fields, I am expressing my own personal readiness and the readiness of the government headed by me to continue to develop the relations between our two countries and peoples on a pragmatic and mutually beneficial basis.” That was the press release the government gave concerning Borisov’s congratulating Putin. The remarks were released after criticism towards Borisov by the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

Many world leaders either refused or were slow to congratulate Putin on yet another term as the leader of Russia. The expected election results come in a climate of tension between Russia and the West. Some point to voter fraud cases during the election in order to explain yet another landslide victory by the Russian strongman.
