We are on the Doorstep of a new Cold War, Bulgarian Politician Warns

Toma Tomov from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) warns that the current situation in the U.S.A and their attitude towards Russia may lead to a new Cold War. According to him, the American President Donald Trump has been put in a tight spot and there are a lot of voices rising against him. Many people demand his impeachment, but whether they succeed or fail will become apparent later in the year, around November. The other side of the problem is much more terrifying, as the claims of Trump’s ties to Russia have stirred a lot of distrust and aggression towards Russia and the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Tomov said that if the situation does not settle, soon we may witness a new Cold War.

Toma Tomov also discussed the topic of the Istanbul Convention. According to him, the convention has 30 pages of beautiful text and over 70 pages of explanatory notes which are pure horror. He supports the proposed referendum on the Istanbul Convention as the opinions and feelings of the Bulgarian people are far more important than the opinion of the Party of European Socialists. Earlier this month, the PES condemned BSP’s standpoint on the Istanbul Convention, as for the PES full support towards the convention is the right thing to do.
