18-Year-Old Roma Woman Gergana Blagoeva Murders her 2-Year-Old baby for Crying Too Loudly

The 18-year-old Romani Gergana Blagoeva murdered her 1 year and 10 months old child by suffocating it with a sock because it was crying and puking.

During this summer, Stamboliiski, Bulgaria was shocked by a brutal murder. On June 20, 2017, a homeless person was rummaging through piles of thrash when he discovered the dead body of a baby. The child was dressed only with a diaper and had a sock stuffed in its mouth. After some examination, the child’s clothes were found in the vicinity of the body. The police immediately opened an investigation on the gruesome murder.

The police got to the child’s mother, the 18-year-old Romani  named Gergana Blagoeva. After some questioning, the woman admitted to the murder. According to her statement, she had difficulties caring for the child. At some moment, the child started crying and puking. The girl had no idea what to do with the child, so she stuffed its mouth with a sock. After a few minutes, the child died in her arms. She went to a near-by thrash pile and buried her child there, hoping that no one will find it.

Nowadays, the case of Gergana Blagoeva is still reviewed in court. Before the trial, more shocking facts were revealed. The 18-year-old girl used to systematically abuse her child. Before it, she had another baby, but it was given for adoption. The prosecutor on the case, Todor Pavlov, said that the girl viewed this child only as a hindrance to her lifestyle. In her defence, Blagoeva only said: “I have not been in court before, I do not know what to do”. If she is found guilty of this crime, she may face a life sentence or at least 20 years in jail.
