Bulgarian Minister of Defence Granted an Official flag to a School’s Guardsmen Division

The second guardsmen division in the school “Dr. Petar Beron” in Pleven, Bulgaria received its flag from the Bulgarian Minister of Defence in an official ceremony.

On February 9 2018, the Bulgarian Minister of Defence, Krasimir Karakachanov, together with the Deputy-Minister of Education Tanya Mihaylova, representatives of the Presidency and representatives of the local government in Pleven, Bulgaria attended a ceremony at the “Dr. Petar Beron” High School in Pleven during which the school’s Guardsmen Division received their official flag. The flag was blessed by priests of the Pleven eparchy and granted to the division’s flag-bearer.

The students’ Guardsmen Division gives children a different view of the world. They pass basic military education and are initiated into the guardsmen ceremonial practices. This gives them access to official events at both the school of which they are part and the district in which they live. This way they get first-hand experience of the country’s social and political life.

Minister Karakachanov said that more Guardsmen Divisions should be opened in schools, as this way we sow the seeds of the country’s next patriots.  He later added that for him these are the values which children should be taught and shared his dissatisfaction with the fact that the country can never find financing for such programmes. On the other hand, the government is always willing to share money with NGO’s filled with people who have “taken the easy way of gulping EU money” giving nothing in return but problems and confusion, the Minister added.
