Bulgarian MP Does not go to Work - Still Gets Paid

One of the most controversial MPs in the current parliament - Delyan Peevski - has skipped 101 parliamentary sittings and still getting his MP salary.

Peevski, who recently proposed changes to the law on media funding, has excused all 101 times he wasn't present in the National Assembly. The information was confirmed by the Parliament's administration. Nonetheless, Peevski is still getting his monthly MP salary which is equal to three average salaries in Bulgaria.

However, Peevski isn't receiving any money for his part in the various committees he's a part of - because he doesn't attend their meetings as well. In fact, Peevski hasn't participated in any of the debates or the votes on new laws or changes to laws in both the parliamentary chamber and the committees. Although Peevski has not shown up even once to his workplace- he has received over 30,000 BGN (€15,000) from the taxpayers' money as his official salary.
