Man From Troyan, Bulgaria, Kills His Wife By 26 Knife Stabs

A 37-year-old man from Troyan, Bulgaria, murdered his 35-year-old wife in a particularly brutal way despite a restraining order being filed by the victim.

The disturbing case was preceded by many scandals and fights between the two. The woman issued a restraining order on her husband. He couldn’t approach her or enter her home. Yet he did both things when the murder occurred.

The man broke into his former home and stabbed his wife 26 times. During the struggle, he was also injured. The killer called the police, informing them of the crime. After that, he was rushed to the hospital where his stab wounds were treated.

The murderer will be sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. According to the neighbors, the wife was much more aggressive than the husband in the past. On one occasion she even hit him on the head with a frying pan, sending him to a hospital.

This crime happens while Bulgaria is busy with debating whether the Istanbul Convention really is about preventing violence against women. In any case, the relationship prior to the murder was profoundly toxic and no legislation about the social construction of gender would’ve prevented this particular murder as effectively as some common humanity in both participants would’ve done.
