Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations Opposed the New Pension Ceiling and Insurable Earnings

The Association of Bulgarian Employers' Organizations opposed the negotiations between the government and the trade unions that the new pension ceiling should be seriously increased along with the maximum insurable earnings. According to business, the changes have been secretly negotiated, Actualno reported.

At a meeting with the Prime Minister last week in the absence of the Social Minister and employers, it was agreed that the ceiling for all pensions - both old and new will be increased from the current BGN 910 to BGN 1,200 and at the same time to raise the maximum insurable earnings from BGN 2,600 to BGN 3,000 BGN. The Association's position states that they are strongly opposed regarding meetings behind the nationally representative employers' organizations and other competent authorities.

According to the business, "the stated intentions for changes are obviously accepted in the conditions of predominant populist attitudes before the elections to the European Parliament and for local government bodies, under trade union pressure and without the necessary assessment".

The Association insists on holding an immediate meeting with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy and the Governor of the National Social Security Institute.
