Lidl to Open its First 16 Stores in Serbia

German discount chain Lidl plans to open its first 16 stores in Serbia next week, the company announced. The stores will be opened in 12 Serbian cities - Belgrade, Bor, Zrenjanin, Kragujevac, Leskovac, Nis, Novi Sad, Smederevo, Sombor, Subotica, Uzice and Sabac.

Lidl will have about 1,500 employees in Serbia from the opening of the first 16 stores. The chain had already registered a subsidiary in Serbia in December 2010 and originally planned to open the first supermarkets in 2013.

Lidl invested EUR 55 million in the construction of a logistics complex with a storage capacity of 30,000 pellets on 45,000 m2 in Stara Pazova, in northern Serbia.

Lidl operates over 10,000 stores in Europe. In Bulgaria, Lidl has more than 80 stores located all over the country.
