Manchester Airports Group Interested in Operating Sofia Airport in Bulgaria

MAG, the UK’s largest airport group, confirmed that it intends to participate in the process for the concession to operate Sofia Airport in Bulgaria. The company controls three of the main airports in the UK – Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands, which together serve 60 million passengers per year to up to 270 destinations. The company claims to analyze for two years the potential of Sofia airport. 

MAG chief executive, Charlie Cornish, said that “airports bring the world closer together and act as significant economic catalysts for both the regional and national economies in which they operate, and we hope to be given the opportunity to deliver to the people of Bulgaria the world-class global gateway that they deserve”, Air-World reported.

Xing Yan, regional director of the Chinese BCEG International Co. Ltd, commented that it would be a real honor for them to be joining with their partners in the selection process. 

The estimated value of the concession of Sofia Airport is EUR 3,898 billion without VAT or more than BGN 7.6 billion. Offers are expected to be received by October 22, 2018. The concession of the airport will be of a mixed type.
