EIB: Buzludzha to Receive a Status of a Cultural Monument

Deputy Minister of Culture Rumen Dimitrov confirmed that the procedure for granting a cultural monument status to Buzludzha monument will be accelerated.

Europe Nostra and the European Investment Bank included the building among the seven most endangered cultural heritage sites in Europe in 2018. The opinion of experts who visited the monument is that it should be preserved and used for cultural and educational activities, Dnes.dir.bg reported.

European delegates have recommended urgent measures to stop the destruction by finding funding from the European Structural Funds, and in order for this to happen, the building must have the status of a cultural monument. Preliminary studies such as architectural and constructive ones are expected to be initiated.

During the inspection of the building, the experts were amazed by the modern architecture of European importance and, at the same time, shocked by its miserable condition. They have rated Buzludzha as part of the collective memory of Bulgaria and Europe, so its preservation is of European importance.
