Sofia, Bulgaria -
For the first time in Bulgaria, a complex operation using a new method of treatment of colorectal cancer has been carried out in the National Oncology Hospital in Sofia. This was reported by Focus-News.
The patient was a 63-year-old man with rectal carcinoma with dissections. The man was operated once in 2014, but this year he enrolled for local treatment in the small pelvis with the engagement of the iliac vessels. Despite the complicated situation, the specialists managed to save him.
Doctors recovered intravenous blood flow by interposition with the contralateral superficial femoral vein. The patient was released two weeks later without any complications. The later angiography has shown a vascular reconstruction without tumor recurrence.
The surgical method of treatment, which was introduced by Dr. Todorov and Dr. Angelova, will be practiced in the hospital. It will enable patients with severe cases of colon cancer who have not been able to receive treatment to have a chance to live.
