36 Illegal Immigrants Were Detained in Haskovo Region, Bulgaria

Two traffickers and 36 illegal immigrants were detained in the village of Mezek, Bulgaria. This is happening within the framework of the specialized police operation undertaken by the police to counter the attempts for illegal migration through the Bulgarian-Greek and Bulgarian-Turkish borders, Ministry of Interior reported.

In the course of the actions, in the evening of September 26, near the village of Mezek, an illegal crossing of the state border was detected. In the area, the police noticed two Mercedes and a Ford Galaxy moving inside the country. After persecution, the police stopped the Mercedes in the area of Siva Reka village and detained the driver - a 33-year-old man from Stara Zagora, and 17 foreign citizens -men, women, and children - Iraqi citizens.

In the follow-up actions, the second driver - a 23-year-old man from the town of Galabovo - was established and detained as an accomplice. 19 foreigners were found in his car as well. Both drivers and illegal immigrants are detained. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated. Work on the case continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
