Croatian President Adopts Labrador From Shelter

The Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović adopted a dog during a visit to a shelter in Virovitica, Northern Croatia. While the president was in the shelter, a mini-labrador caught her eye. The pet will soon become "the first hound of the Croatian presidency" as Jutarnji List writes.

The dog's name is reportedly Kika. Grabar-Kitarović commented that the small puppy will be a breath of fresh air from the larger dogs at the presidency.

Cute pups are often used to tug at the heartstrings of the general public. Even Russian President Vladimir Putin broke away from his iron man persona when he was presented with a cute Karakachan dog by Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. Unlike Putin, Croatia's President is known for being more affectionate and down-to-earth, which she demonstrated during the 2018 FIFA world cup.
